Green School Day Celebration

On May 9, 2017, Eighty students participated in our first annual Green School Day Celebration. The school began the morning with a group assembly by Ophelia Barizo, Einstein Fellow and STEM Coordinator for the Chesapeake Conference of SDA, on the 5R’s of Environmental Stewardship: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Rethink, and Respect. Afterwards, students spent the morning engaged in several round-robin style environmental activities.

  1. In the Garden: Creating seed bombs and weeding the outdoor classroom area
  2. Who Dirtied the Bay?: Learning how the Bay became polluted and learning about water filtration.
  3. Schoolyard Cleanup: Picking up litter on the school grounds.
  4. Flying Wild: Understanding bird migration and creating birdseed ornaments to hang outside.
